Want to build your business on Instagram but don’t want to take photos? Then a feature Instagram account will work great for you. When you use a feature Instagram account, you can post mostly content that is curated from personal accounts. This can save you a ton of time and make your life a lot easier.
When done correctly using a feature Instagram account can help you:
- Consistently fill your Instagram feed with gorgeous content.
- Build a community in your niche.
- Gain followers faster than traditional accounts.
How To Create A Feature Instagram Account
Creating your first feature Instagram account.
Step One: Decide On Your Focus (Niche)
The first step of the process of creating a feature account is to choose your focus or niche. Remember you’re trying to use the feature account to ultimately promote your business; choose something specific that is also related to your business. For example, if you have a beauty business, you’d probably create a feature account around makeup, reposting different makeup looks.
Step Two: Choosing A Name
Once you have decided what the focus of your account will be, you’re ready to choose a name. Make sure it clearly identifies your account’s focus and is short. This makes it is easy for people to type out your name when tagging the account.
Step Three: Create A Branded Hashtag
Creating your own hashtag allows you to quickly find high-quality content to feature on your account. Make sure to keep your hashtag simple and easy to spell. After you have picked one out double-check it to make sure it doesn’t spell something bad accidentally. If done correctly you could simply use your feature account’s name as your hashtag.
Pro Tip: Do a little research before you settle on anything to make sure your hashtag isn’t being used by another account.
Make sure to add your hashtag to your bio, and in the captions of your photos. Promote your hashtag in your bio by adding a short sentence that inspires your followers to post using your hashtag. This can be as simple as use #myhashtag to be featured.
Step Four: Look For Content
Search Instagram by using popular hashtags until you find an image you like. Once the hashtag you created starts getting used you can find content just by searching your hashtag. Use the bookmark icon to save the post you like so you can find them easily later.
Step Five: Ask For Permission
Before you share a photo it’s important to always ask for permission. Confirm that the original poster of the content exclusively owns that content, and that is ok for you to repost it. You can ask for permission by sending the account a message or by commenting on the photo. Once you feature content from someone, make sure to follow them so you can check out any new content they post.
Step Six: Repost Content.
When it comes to reposting content you have 2 options: screenshot the photo (this could downgrade the quality of the photo) or use a reposting app (you have tons of options in your app store). Make sure whatever method you chose you to give credit in the caption to the original poster and tag them in the photo. You can repost the same caption as the original poster or delete it and create your own. Don’t forget to add their handle to the caption and provide context to indicate that they are the original posters.
Promoting your business with a feature Instagram account.
One of the ways people shop on Instagram is by clicking the link in an accounts bio and since you are the one running the account, you can use the link in the bio to direct followers to shop with you. Plus, if you have chosen a niche in which your products naturally fit in, promoting your product every now and again will not look out of place. For example, if you sell beauty products and your feature account is talking about makeup looks, promoting a mascara would naturally make sense.
Pro Tip: Make sure you use the promotion post sparingly to avoid looking spammy. Remember the 80/20 rule: 80% valuable content, 20% promotions for your business
Here are a few other ways you can promote your business on a feature account.
#1 Promote your business in photo captions. The focus of your post should be on the accounts picture you are featuring, but you can use the caption of the photo for a call to action for your business.
For example: If you are in the makeup looks niche and you are using a picture of a makeup look, you can say: Shop for great beauty products at affordable prices @yourIGFeatureAcountHandle
#2 Feature Your Own Photos. Just because your account features other people’s photos doesn’t mean you can’t feature one of your own photos every now and then. A few times a month use a picture where you promote one of your products.
#3 Use Instagram Stories. You can also use your Instagram stories to promote your business. You can show off your products, give product reviews, talk about product launches, highlight a blog post, promote sales, or share customers success stories.
Finding followers for your Instagram account.
This is simple you just need to go out and engage with your target audience getting them to notice you.
Once they notice you and your name, they will check out your account and if it is something they are interested in they will probably follow you.
Here are a few ways you can get them to notice you.
#1 Liking Pictures. When you like a picture on an account with a small following they’ll receive a notification. Most of the time when you do this they will go and check out your account.
#2 Commenting on People’s Photos. Follows the same logic as liking photos but when done correctly can be way more effective. Also, other people seeing the picture will notice your comment and might visit your profile. Make sure the comments you leave are genuine. Avoid the emojis-only type of comments or just two words as these types of comments make you look like a bot.
#3 Create A Giveaway or Contest. This can be done in a number of different ways, but I will give you the 2 most common. The first way is to create a post and ask people to like the post, follow your account, and tag people in the comments section. Then at the end of your giveaway pick one winner from your comments section. The second way is to ask people to post pictures using your hashtag and pick one winner from all the submissions. But remember, it’s not enough to just create the Instagram contest, you’ll also want to promote the contest. Remember to schedule Instagram posts throughout the month to remind your followers to use your hashtag.
