People who sign up for your email list are much more likely to purchase through your affiliate links and recommendations because you have moved them into your warm market. Emailing your warm market information of value on a regular basis helps you create more loyalty with them. Because of this, they are more likely to trust you and therefore buy from you.
The Rule Of Seven Contacts
Have you ever heard of the rule of seven contacts? This rule states that in sales after you have had seven contacts with a person, they are more likely to buy from you. The best way to have these seven contacts is with email marketing.
So now you know why email marketing is so important, what does that have to do with a digital freebie? Well, if you want more people other than your best friends to join your email list, you are going to need to give them a reason to sign up. This is done easily through freebies.
How to Create Your Digital Freebies
Step 1: Decide What Your Freebie Will Be About.
Your freebie should solve a problem or pain point that your ideal client has. You might already have something in mind as your followers may have already asked you the same question multiple times. This would be a great topic for you to create a freebie for. This not only builds your email list but also saves you time. If you are not sure what you should create then try polling your current audience to see what their biggest questions are.
Pro Tip: I recommend you start with just one Freebie and then expand from there. It is important to note that not all your freebies are going to work for you and that is perfectly normal. Evaluating their effectiveness allows you to see what is working and what isn’t. This way when you create your next one it will be even better.
Step 2: Decide On Your Format
You have a lot of options when it comes to what type of freebie you want to create. Freebies do not have to be printable PDF documents. However, if you can create something that your followers want to print out and hold on to that is magical. That content will now serve as a constant reminder of you and how you helped them. This helps keep you at the top of your follower’s minds.
Pro Tip: Test out different forms of content types and see what your audience likes the best.

Step 3: Create Your Freebie
The format you chose will dictate how you should create your freebie. Below I have listed my favorites.
Video Freebies – My favorite option is YouTube. It is easy and best of all FREE. Just make sure you have marked the video as unlisted, so it doesn’t appear on your main YouTube channel.
Webinar Freebies – Out of all the different platforms out there, for me Zoom is the easiest. It is also the most well-known which helps people navigate it.
Printable Freebies – I love love love Canva! It is free, easy to use, and online! Plus, once you have created the Freebie you can download it as a PDF without having to convert it.
Step 4: Create An Opt-In Page.
An opt-in page is simply where you get them to provide their email address so you can send them their freebie. If you don’t already have an email marketing service to create an opt-in list then you can get mine for FREE here. You can also use a blog (if you have one) to create an opt-in list and then just add that list to your email service but this requires a few more steps.
Pro Tip: Make your submit button enticing. Use phrases like “Download now” or “Get instant access”
Step 5: Deliver the Freebie
Once someone signs up using your opt-in form, they will be added to your email list. You can set up within your email marketing service to have an email automatically sent to a new subscriber when they sign up for that specific form. In this email, they will get the link to download the freebie. Follow up with an email a week later providing additional, useful information or a coupon code for your business. Make sure to add at the end of the email something like “If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.” You can set up for your email marketing service send this out automatically, so you don’t have to worry about it.
Pro Tip: Make sure the subject line of this email is something they will recognize. You don’t want it to be something they can easily overlook.
Step 5: Market Your Freebie
You want to make sure that your freebie ends up in your ideal client’s hands, so you are going to want to promote it appropriately.
Here are some of the ways you can promote your freebie:
- Write a new blog post.
- Add it as a call to action in relevant blog posts.
- Instagram main profile and stories. Make sure to use hashtags that your target follower is searching for.
- YouTube video.
- Facebook posts and Facebook live.
- Promote it directly. If someone has a question that your freebie can answer tell them to download it.
- Run a giveaway.
- Add a call to action in the banner of your Facebook page or group.
