With there being so many different social media platforms you can use to build your business, often business owners don’t know where they should be spending their time.
The biggest mistake I see most frequently is being on every platform without being consistent at any of them. Most of the time this inconsistency leads to none of your accounts growing which leads to frustration.
The best plan to avoid this is to pick one main platform and constantly show up and build your following there.
What Social Media Platform Is The Best For Your Business?
I am not saying that you shouldn’t be on the other platforms. Quite the opposite. It is particularly important that you go ahead and create an account with your brand name on at least the top 3 biggest social media networks (Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube).
There are a few different reasons why this is important:
#1 You secure your handle for each of those platforms before anyone else takes it. This also allows you to have the same username across many different platforms making it easy for your followers to connect to you.
# 2 It gives you a way to promote your most active social media account. For example, if you are building your business on Facebook you can share a post promoting your Facebook account on Instagram.
#3 You don’t have to create new content; you can repurpose your main social media content on your other social media networks.
So out of all the social media platforms which one should you focus your energy on?
First, you should think about starting with the platform you are the most comfortable with or interested in. Why? Because it is going to be the easiest to master which will get you results faster.
The second thing you want to think about is, “What platform will your targeted customers or team members be the most concentrated on?” This is where you can make the biggest impact.
The answer to these to simple questions should point you in the right direction.
Now that you have a platform in mind, it is time to test it out to see if that is where your best opportunity is.
How To Test Your Accounts
Step One: For the next 30 days create constant content for your chosen platform.
Step Two: Repurpose all of your content possible on the other 3 social media platforms.
Examples:
- Facebook live videos can be downloaded and repurposed as YouTube videos.
- YouTube videos can be shared on your Facebook Page.
- Instagram posts can be shared to your Facebook page and Facebook posts can be repurposed for Instagram captions.
Step Three: After the 30 days, look at all your platforms and see which one is growing the fastest and getting the most engagement. After you test out which platform is working best for you, if you need to switch your focus then that is ok.
If you find 30 days doesn’t give you enough results to evaluate then extend for another 60 days.
This is the easiest way to see what the best social media platform is for your business.
Just remember to keep repurposing your content on other platforms to help drive more people to your most active social media account.
After you master building your business on one platform, then move on to building more on your second most active platform.
The most important thing to remember is whatever platform you chose, be prepared to be consistent, and put out good thoughtful content.
